BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – UPDATE (06/25/2019) — A Binghamton man has been arrested for an unprovoked knife attack on a homeless man that occurred yesterday morning.
Binghamton Police arrested 23 year-old Saquawon Linton yesterday after tracking him to Syracuse. Police say Linton stabbed a 59 year-old homeless man multiple times while he was sleeping on a bench outside the downtown bus station at around 1:30 in the morning. The victim had serious, life-threatening wounds to his head, neck and face, as well as a partially severed finger. He currently listed in critical but stable condition.
Linton, who police say has no known ties to the victim, is charged with attempted murder. Binghamton Police are investigating the alleged stabbing of a homeless man near the downtown bus station.
Police say that at 1:48 this morning, a 59 year-old homeless man waved down a patrol car, claiming to be the victim of a vicious assault.
He reported being stabbed multiple times while sleeping on a bench outside the Maurice Hinchey Hub by a lone attacker wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a Halloween mask.
The attacker allegedly told the victim to die before fleeing on foot.
Police say the homeless man had serious, life-threatening wounds to his head, neck and face, as well as a partially severed finger.
He is currently in the intensive care unit of an area hospital, listed in critical but stable condition.
