Police and SWAT respond to Winding Way

Local News

Binghamton Police surrounded a house in the First Ward for several hours this morning after a man with reported mental illness barricaded himself inside.

Police received a call about a disturbance on Winding Way.

They were told a man with a handgun had barricaded himself in an apartment he had been squatting in.

Police and SWAT teams arrived on the scene and after two and a half hours were able to talk him out of the house.

In the end, the man did not have a gun.

During the exchange, the suspect broke some windows with what turned out to be a shovel.

He was taken to Binghamton General for a psychiatric evaluation and is being charged with criminal trespass.
