VESTAL, N.Y. - A local dog grooming business is honoring the memory of a little girl who loved pets by giving pet owners a way to memorialize their lost loved ones.
Cuddlebugs Dog Grooming on the Vestal Parkway has added a memorial walk to "Sarah's Memorial Garden."
The garden is a tribute to Sarah Jayne Orton, a Baltimore area girl who died unexpectedly of sepsis in 2013 at the age of five.
Earlier that year, Sarah had asked that all of her birthday gifts be given to the Baltimore Humane Society where she had gotten her pet Scooter.
Her aunt Nicole Mathews helped to start the charity "Sarah's Cause" which raised money for animal shelters here and in Baltimore.
Cuddlebugs is selling memorial pavers for people who wish to honor their deceased pets.
Mathews says Sarah had a big heart.
"She was a very happy, spunky little girl that just had this zest for life. A few days before she passed, she went to Hershey Park and she rode the roller coasters with her hands up and had a blast," said Mathews.
The pavers are being sold for $55 through next Tuesday which would have been Sarah's 10th birthday.
After that, the cost will be $75.
To order, call 607-205-1366 or stop by Cuddlebugs.
You don't have to be a Cuddlebugs customer to purchase.
Sarah's Cause has supported the Broome County Humane Society, Stray Haven, and Pibbles and More.
