A fallen Port Dickinson Police Officer is honored for his sacrifice.
A ceremony was held to unveil a monument dedicated to Officer Aldo Rossi.
Rossi was struck and killed by a drunk driver during a traffic stop near Route 7 and Phelps Street in July of 2008.
Family, friends, and members of law enforcement from across the area came out to Port Dickinson Village Hall to pay tribute to the fallen officer.
Aldo’s wife Renee Rossi says he had completed his life goal of working in law enforcement when he went through the academy and got a job with the Port Dickinson Police Department at the age of 40.
She says time hasn’t healed all wounds, but having his memory honored where he served helps aid the recovery.
“It’s more about trying to celebrate his life and who he was and how he would want us to carry on. He loved gatherings, he loved family, he loved celebrations and just being around people. Just surrounding myself with an amazing support system; our families, friends still law enforcement to this day 10 years later has all contributed to the healing,” said Rossi.
Renee says she hopes her husband will always be remembered for his kindness and ability to make every person he talked to feel special.
