Mayor Rich David joins other local leaders in DC

Local News

Binghamton Mayor Rich David was in the nation’s capital for a meeting of local leaders from across the country.

The United States Conference of Mayors is a non-partisan organization comprised of mayors from every city with over 30 thousand people.

Each January they hold their annual winter meetings in D.C.

Mayor David says he attended multiple panel discussions on topics such as homeless and affordable housing, infrastructure and metro economies.

He says the conference serves as a way for Mayors to share ways to improve their cities.

“Sometimes its an opportunity to see what other mayors in other cities are doing to address problems. Sometimes its a general discussion in regards to the best practices . Sometimes you can have some interaction with how to advance projects in your local community,” David says.

David was also at the White House last year and sat in on discussions with president Trump and Vice President Pence.on ways for the federal government to work with municipalities.

He says over the last year the administration has reached out to mayors throughout the nation, but in regards to policy directives and funding increases it’s been a bit of a mixed bag.
