There’s now a formal way for Tioga Downs owner Jeff Gural to support charitable causes in our region.
Gural created the Tioga Downs Regional Foundation last Fall and on Friday announced the recipients of $250,000 worth of grants.
16 non-profit organizations from Broome, Tioga, Chemung and Bradford Counties received amounts ranging from $2,500 to $20,000.
The foundation’s executive director, Roseann Cole, says the grants support education, emergency responders, veterans and anti-poverty initiatives. “I’m a resident of Nichols, I live right here in this area. Seeing what the Downs has done has been huge. Mr. Gural has been there for this area all of the time, through the floodings, when an organization has a need, he’s always willing to step right up there and to help out. It’s done a world of good for this community.”
Recipients include A Room To Heal, which will receive funding to complete ten projects this year, and Roberson will get money to host 35 field trips from Tioga County schools.
American Legion Post 80 in Binghamton, VFW Post 1371 in Owego, the Tioga Center Fire Department and the Tioga County Boys and Girls Club were among others to also receive grants.
