Following the passing of his Hemp Farming Act legislation, Senator Chuck Schumer is looking to have the Southern Tier take advantage of it.
The Hemp Farming Act of 2018 which was signed into law, clears out some of the restrictions on industrial hemp production making it a federally permissible crop for commercial cultivation.
Schumer is calling on major producers of industrial hemp such as Charolette’s Web, Canopy Growth and HempFlax to make significant investments in the Southern Tier.
He says the Southern Tier is ripe with opportunity and with the right support, hemp can become a true cash crop in the region.
Schumer says the region is uniquely situated to exploit this opportunity and become a national center in the cultivation and processing of industrial hemp.
He says meaningful investments in this will create hundreds of good paying jobs in the area and provide a boost to the regional economy.
