Representatives from 500 local businesses came out to celebrate their membership to the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce.
The 54th annual Chamber Dinner was held Tuesday night at the DoubleTree Hotel on Water Street in Binghamton.
The sold-out event featured dinner, the Chamber’s mission moving forward in 2018, along with the appointment of new board members.
M&T Bank CEO Peter Newman is taking over as the Chamber Board Chairman, which was previously held by Joe Mirabito for the past two years.
Chamber President and CEO Jennifer Conway says the chamber is as strong as ever, with membership on the rise.
“It really shows the power that’s in that room and the impact the Chamber has on our community. 40,000 employees are represented here. It’s an evening of celebrating our voice and what we do collectively for our community,” said Conway.
Local businesses and employers were also honored, including Entrepreneur of the Year, which was Co-Founder of Key Branding Labs Adam Sabol, along with Small Business Person of the year Mark Berghorn of Healthwear Rental.
“It’s a big deal, it really is. It’s a tremendous honor when a room full of talented people like this think of you at that level,” said Sabol.
Berghorn said, “We have a really great relationship with our customers and I’ve got a great staff that makes my job a lot easier. Quite frankly, I’d like to give the glory to God.”
Key Branding labs is a digital marketing and public relations firm that works with 22 local brands and businesses, including Spiedie Fest and Nirchi’s Pizza.
Healthwear Rental is located on North Street in Endicott is a medical linen and uniform supplier that doubled in size and space in 2009 and is still growing.
Over the next year, the Chamber will focus on more services and programs for small businesses and further advocating for businesses in Albany.
