Girls softball team heads to Washington D.C.

Local News

Some Binghamton girls are getting the chance to show off their skills on the softball diamond down in our nation’s capital this weekend.

The Binghamton Fire Department sponsored team is traveling to the Little League Urban Initiative East Region Softball Jamboree in Washington DC.

Six inner-city teams from across the Northeast were invited to the tournament.

The BFD team was chosen because they won their local league championship last year.

Coach Kim Beacham says, “I think it’s fantastic.  Our girls are excited.  Not only do they get to meet players from the other teams, and go to a different area, see how their teams play, but they get to show off a little bit their hard work.”

The girls play one game tonight and 2 more tomorrow before then attending the Washington Nationals versus Chicago Cubs major league baseball game in DC tomorrow evening.

If the BFD team does well in their first 3 games, they’ll participate in a playoff on Sunday.
