Fundraiser for a Binghamton man battling cancer

Local News

Family and friends of a Binghamton man battling cancer are looking to the community for support.

Shawn Orton was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in late October.

Orton was born and raised in Binghamton.

He’s married with a son Shawn Junior and a couple step children.

Since the diagnosis the cancer has spread to his liver and lungs.

With costs from doctor’s appointments and chemo treatments piling up, Shawn’s family is holding a fundraiser to help him in his fight.

Shawn’s younger brother Richard says that his brother is a fighter and that the support he’s received in his time of need has been overwhelming. “It touches you deep inside. Friends you haven’t heard form in a while, even his friends that don’t live in the state, they’ve reached to us saying I want to donate but I can’t be there who do I send the check to and what not. It’s been really heartwarming to see how many people have come forward to help out.”

The fundraiser will be held February 2nd at the Knights of Columbus on Park Ave in Binghamton from 1 to 6.

There will be live music, raffles, a silent auction along with food and drinks.

Proceeds from the event will go to Shawn in his fight against colon cancer.
