Fractivists send thank you letter to Gov. Cuomo

Local News
Binghamton (WIVT) – A group of fractivists are thanking Governor Cuomo for the state’s decision to ban fracking.

Representatives from Citizen Action, Vestal Residents for Safe Energy, the Binghamton Regional Sustainability Coalition, and an organic farmer also say they want to set the record straight.

They say some national news accounts are portraying that the majority of people around Greater Binghamton want fracking and that it was needed to give our area an economic boost.

The group said that’s not the case and most people are against the gas drilling process.

Adam Flint with BRSC said not having fracking means other opportunities can be aggressively pursued.

S”We now have an amazing opportunity in this region to lead the state and the country in developing a clean energy economy. Renewable energy and energy efficiency jobs will be an important source of employment moving forward and the good news is that we’ve already begun,” said Flint.

Flint said there will be a seminar at Binghamton University on January 8 to showcase clean energy programs available to schools, businesses, and municipalities.
