BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Former Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan has filed petitions with the Broome County Board of Elections to run for Broome County Sheriff on the Working Families Party line.
Ryan served two terms as Binghamton Mayor from 2006 through 2013 after which he was term-limited.
Prior to that, Ryan, who is a practicing attorney, worked for the Broome County Public Defender's Office.
No word yet on whether Ryan is also seeking the Democratic nomination for Sheriff.
Ryan ran for Mayor as a Democrat with significant support from the Working Families Party.
Deadline for filing petitions is Thursday.
Current Sheriff, Republican Dave Harder, is already facing a GOP primary against his former employee Jason Ellis.
Harder has already been endorsed by the Conservative and Independence parties.
NewsChannel 34 reached out to Ryan for comment but has not received a reply.
