Food-A-Bago is collecting food for CHOW

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Generous local residents are once again doing their best to fill an RV to help feed the hungry this holiday season.

The Food-A-Bago is up and running again outside the Weis Market on Upper Front Street.

Deejays from such Townsquare Media radio stations as 98.1 the Hawk, 99.1 the Whale and WNBF are collecting non-perishable food donations for CHOW.

This is also the 4th year of the shopping cart challenge, a tradition started by the Old Union Hotel.

Businesses, organizations and local law enforcement agencies fill a shopping cart with food to donate, and then issue a challenge to another group to do the same.

WHWK Afternoon Host Jay Franiak says, "It's fun because you try to up one another.  We post the pictures on Facebook, people like them, and it brings a sense of community.  And a little bit of a rivalry, a bit of competitiveness, but in the end, it's for a good cause."

The Food-A-Bago is sponsored by Music for the Mission.

Radio hosts will be on hand from 6 to 6 tomorrow and from 8 to 8 on Saturday and Sunday.

There will be collection barrels if you come at another time.

The Food-A-Bago wraps up next Monday morning at 10:00 am.
