A merger that has been underway for the past three years is now final as the Family and Children’s Society has a new name and a new motto.
The society will now be known as Family and Children’s Counseling Services after combining with Cortland-based Family Counseling Services.
For over 75 years, the Family and Children’s Society has offered mental health counseling and other services to children and adults in Broome and Tioga Counties.
The combined organization will now operate in Cortland, Madison and Herkimer Counties.
Through their partnership, the agency has begun offering addiction counseling, including medically-assisted drug treatment, in Greater Binghamton.
And it has introduced care coordination services in the Cortland area.
Executive Director and CEO Lisa Hoeschele says the synergies allow for experimentation and program growth. “It allows us to compete in the grants environment much more effectively. It allows us to achieve economies of scale. And it allows us to expand programming. For example, in Cortland County, we provide primary care services within our mental health and addictions clinic. That’s something we’d like to do here in Broome County as well.”
The new combined agency also announced its new tagline, “cultivating resilience.”
Hoeschele says there are also plans to centralize its different locations in Greater Binghamton.
