Eastern Broome’s Emergency Services is seeking funding to improve efficiency.
Windsor Mayor Ron Harting applied for a $40,000 grant from the Broome County’s Small Community Grant Fund on the organization’s behalf.
The funding will allow Eastern Broome Emergency Services to equip a second Advanced Life Support Ambulance which is specifically used to treat patients with more serious conditions such as heart attacks.
County Director of Emergency Services Mike Ponticiello says this grant is extremely important because around 50 percent of calls made require ALS ambulances.
“It’s phenomenal because otherwise you’re pulling an ambulance out of the city of Binghamton which is going to take at least 20 to 30 minutes, sometimes longer to get out here. It’s a great asset and great for the communities out here,” said Ponticiello.
Eastern Broome Emergency Services’ primary area of service includes Deposit, Windsor, Sherman, Scott and Sanford.
The grant was approved by the county’s Hotel-Motel committee in July and will be considered by the Broome County Legislature as a resolution at its August session.
