Dick’s Sporting Goods Foundation donates $25,000 to Union-Endicott schools

Dick’s Sporting Goods is giving back to one local school, as it outlines its plans for the 10th anniversary golf tournament.

Media day was held at Charles F. Johnson Elementary School in Endicott, just across the street from En-Joie Golf Course.

After representatives laid out the tournament itinerary, the Dick’s Sporting Goods Foundation presented Union-Endicott schools with a $25,000 donation.

CFJ students also got to practice their golf skills with 2015 Dick’s Open champion Jeff Maggert.

The money will help establish a strength and conditioning program for U-E students and athletes.

Athtletic Director Josh Gannon says Dick’s is a stand-up corporate citizen in our community.

“We’re very grateful. Dick’s Sporting Goods is a staple in our community. The golf tournament is a staple in Endicott. We’re thrilled that they chose us for this grant,” said Gannon.

The Dick’s Open begins with practice rounds on Monday and Tuesday, the Pro-Am on Wednesday and the official golf running Friday through Sunday.

Special events include the UHS Women’s Golf Expo with Nancy Lopez on Tuesday, a First Tee Kids Clinic on Thursday, the Florida Georgia Line Concert on Friday night and the brand new Walk to Defeat ALS on Sunday following the finish of the tournament.
