An accomplished dermatologist from Johns Hopkins is relocating to our area, bringing with him a specialized approach to removing skin cancer.
Doctor Robert Egbers has opened Anew Dermatology at 302 Reynolds Road in Johnson City across from the Oakdale Mall.
In addition to general dermatology, Egbers focuses on the removal of cancer and skin reconstruction afterward.
He’s bringing the Mohs surgical technique to our area for the first time.
Egbers says the technique, developed by Frederic Mohs in 1938, involves keeping the surgical margins very small while maintaining a high cure rate.
“Most skin cancers form on the head and neck. These are very cosmetically sensitive areas and also very functionally important areas. So, you want to save every little bit of extra tissue that you can, and keep the scar as small as possible, and affect people’s lives as little as possible from having surgery,” said Egbers.
Egbers has hired a staff of seven and performs his surgeries on site.
He is currently networking with other local dermatologists to refer their skin cancer patients.
