OWEGO, N.Y. - A woman building custom furniture in Owego has expanded and opened her own store.
Teri Whitmore has taken her business, Teri's Handmade Crafts, out of her home and into a storefront located at 58 North Avenue in Owego.
Whitmore makes her own furniture and can custom design it to meet the wishes of a customer.
She also makes primitive decor, custom signs, and other household items.
Whitmore began creating DIY pieces around her home and posted the finished product on Facebook.
Then, her friends began asking if she could make items for them.
Whitmore says it was time to open her own space.
"I had a lot of furniture on display at home and I was running out of room. We bought the building and it had an empty commercial space. It was perfect for me and move-in ready," said Whitmore.
Whitmore says while each project varies, it usually takes around 2 to 4 weeks to make an item.
Whitmore prefers to take custom orders in-person at the store.
