Crime Victims Assistance Center expands to serve Western Broome County

ENDICOTT, N.Y. - The Crime Victims Assistance Center has expanded to serve people in Western Broome County.

CVAC has partnered with Our Lady of Good Council Church to open a satellite office at Saint Ambrose Church located at 202 Garfield Avene in Endicott.

CVAC's Safe Harbour initiative will operate out of the facility, which is a program aimed at combating sex trafficking in the region.

At the new location, CVAC will provide services such as education, girl empowerment, counseling and eventually the organization would like to add a teen drop-in center.

Executive Director Raini Baudendistal says area teens needs to be cared for.

"Abusers can pick out people who are vulnerable.  They take advantage of and manipulate those situations.  I have two daughters myself, so this issue is very close to my heart.  These kids need to be protected and if they don't have someone in their life that's doing that for them, then we want to do what we can to supplement that as best we can," said Baudendistal.

Baudendistal is encouraging people to get educated on the issue of sex trafficking.

She also says many people don't believe that sex trafficking takes place in our area.
