KIRKWOOD, N.Y. - A special day camp took place this week bringing together children who are coping with a loss.
Camp Hope for Kids is a project of Lourdes Hospice that takes place at Camp Sertoma in Kirkwood.
In its 11th year, the camp brought 50 children between the ages of 6 and 14 who are grieving for the loss of a loved one.
A graduation ceremony was held today, the final day of camp, and the kids marked the occasion by all blowing bubbles into the pond.
"They've met all of these other children that are grieving also over the loss of a loved one and they really do great. That's a big part of it, the sense of not being alone and learning how other children grieve and deal with it," said Executive Team Member Susie Miller.
In addition to fun camp activities like games and arts and crafts, the kids also participate in two healing circles each day as they learn healthy grieving and coping skills.
