Chenango Supply is the Greater Binghamton Chamber Business of the Week.
The company was started in 1962 by current President David Kipper’s grandparents in their garage selling nuts and bolts.
Now it deals primarily in industrial supply and fasteners.
Recently, it’s started selling Husqvarna equipment including saws and lawn mowers.
While it is open to the public, 90% of its business is with industrial clients, working with municipalities and railroads.
Kipper, the third generation to run Chenango Supply, says maintaining their local presence over the years has helped them succeed.
“The local aspect is key, you have to have roots. We could go ahead and have a warehouse and just be doing an online business out of the warehouse. But that doesn’t give you any sort of feeling of roots or connection to the community,” Kipper says.
Kippers says he continues to find new ways to adapt and keep things fresh.
For example, he says they have a brand of nylon lifting slings and stainless steel fasteners that are sold on Amazon.
