BU’s Zeta Psi Fraternity will hold a memorial fundraiser this Sunday

Binghamton University students will be honoring the life of one of their fallen classmates this weekend.

BU’s Zeta Psi Fraternity will hold a memorial soccer penalty kick fundraiser this Sunday to honor former fraternity brother Joao Souza who was viciously murdered last April.

All of the proceeds will be donated to the Souza family to support the building of a soccer field in his native Brazil, which will be named after Joao with the remaining funds used to purchase soccer equipment for less fortunate children in Brazil.

Zeta Psi President Oliver Schoenfeld says Souza was a guy that always had a smile on his face and a deep love of soccer. “We want people to enjoy the event and enjoy the day and hopefully come together closer as a community. Last year definitely rocked us a lot but it did bring us closer. We just want to live our lives the way he wanted to live his. We want people to understand that and just enjoy it.”

The event will kick off at noon at the grass field outside of the East Gym on BU’s campus.

Tickets will be 5 dollars and t-shirts will also be available for purchase.
