A highly-anticipated review of Broome County’s books is expected any day now.

The Office of State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli is conducting the audit of Broome’s finances.

It was initially launched by former County Executive Debbie Preston following revelations that she had improperly used a Town of Conklin credit card for personal purchases.

However, since then, it has taken on new significance as the current County Executive, Democrat Jason Garnar, has been sparring with the Republican-controlled legislature over the size of the county’s fund balance.

When asked about it Tuesday, DiNapoli said that the audit would be completed “Very soon.  This month, yes this month.  We were just talking about it around Christmas.  This month.”
