BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - There's much celebration going on in Rumble Town.
The Rumble Ponies announced Thursday that Binghamton will be hosting the 2020 Eastern League All Star Game at NYSEG Stadium.
The selection follows a very public and intense lobbying effort by the team, its parent club the New York Mets and local politicians.
Members of the community had been encouraged to email, call and even tweet the league offices using #BingItHome.
Ponies owner John Hughes called it the greatest accomplishment of his professional career.
"It can't get any better. I will tell you, from Day 1, everything I've promised our fans is that we're going to continue to grow and I'm not going to stop improving this team, driving for success and making this the best experience you could ever have here at NYSEG Stadium," he said.
The game will be sponsored by Eaton's Ephesus Lighting, which recently installed new LED lights at the stadium as part of a significant renovation.
No word on the specific date of the game.
This is the first time Binghamton will host the Eastern League All Star Game, although it held a Double-A All Star Game back in 1994.
