Binghamton University hosts Community Opportunities Fair

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - College students got the chance recently to become more familiar with the area in which they learn.

Binghamton University hosted its 9th annual Community Opportunities Fair.

Ninety-four area organizations, service-oriented student groups and University departments were in attendance.

Participants were able to speak one on one with representatives to learn about how they can get more involved in the community.

Center for Civic Engagement Assistant Director of Communications Laura Reindl says she continues to hear from students how helpful the event is.

"For one there's a lot that they can give to organizations in the community. Especially non-profit organizations who need help with various volunteer projects. But also it really gives the students a sense of home in the City of Binghamton if they get involved in the city or the surrounding areas as well as just staying on campus," Reindl says.

She says students also learn about internship opportunities.

The event was free and open to the public.
