Some of Santa’s substitute elves were at it again as Binghamton Sertoma kept alive a Christmas tradition.
Members of the service organization met at the Binghamton Club to wrap presents they purchased for four needy families in our area.
Each year for roughly the past 25 years, Binghamton Sertoma has operated an Adopt-A-Family campaign during the holidays.
Lourdes Hospital provides the names of the members of the four families, 27 people in all, along with their wish lists.
Sertoma members made donations, which the club matched, and about $4,400 dollars was spent on Christmas gifts.
Project Chair Sheryl Dalton says, “We get the lists from the families so we know the kind of things that they’re looking for. But we also want to make sure that they get those mandatory items such as cold weather clothing, diapers if needed, hats, gloves, those kinds of things. As well as educational toys and things to make it a very Merry Christmas for these kids.”
After the wrapping was done, Sertomans loaded the packages into a couple of vans and took them to Lourdes to be distributed.
Binghamton Sertoma currently has 32 members.
