Binghamton Philharmonic pays tribute to Beethoven this Season

Local News

The Binghamton Philharmonic is preparing for a massive celebration of one of music’s greatest composers.

In a collaboration with 25 local organizations, the Philharmonic’s 2019-2020 season will be paying tribute to Beethoven.

Starting in September with his first Symphony, the Philharmonic will cycle through each of his symphonies finishing off with his 9th on what would’ve been his 250th birthday on December 16th 2020.

The Beethoven Project will feature a variety of other events in the community including the Beat Beethoven 5K and the Who Killed Beethoven interactive murder mystery party at the Bundy Museum.

Executive Director Brittany Hall says this was something the whole local arts community was eager to get involved with. “Bringing them together to celebrate this momentous genius is something that the Philharmonic frankly had to do. He wrote so many works that there was no way that the Philharmonic alone could accomplish celebrating this great man’s history. So when we started calling around and asking other arts organizations to join us they said yes immediately.”

Other big shows for the 2019-2020 season include May the Fourth Be With You, the music of Star Wars taking place next May and The Magical Music of Harry Potter in October 2020.
