The Binghamton Noon Rotary Club took time at this week’s meeting to honor some special students.
For the 4th year, the Rotary handed out awards for its 2019 Students of the Year.
Seven fifth graders, one from each Binghamton elementary school was honored.
Students received recognition from their teachers that described their personal leadership, talents, and contributions to their school and community.
The recipient from Woodrow Wilson was Olivia Kennedy Richardson.
A few years ago, she lost her father and despite dealing with that hardship, she’s thrived at school.
She says it’s a huge honor being selected.
Olivia Kennedy Richardson says “I was in shock, I was just like are you serious. It was very cool I want to make my parents proud and that’s how to do it. Making sure my school work is done, making sure I’m always respectful, making sure I’m doing my best.”
The other students honored were Illeana Borgos, Zainab Chattha, Noah Kresin, Imogen Kurtz, Jineya Lowry and Jordyn Russell.
Each student was given a certificate of appreciation along with several gift certificates and small gifts from Rotarians.
