Binghamton high school student wins Mother's Day card design contest

BINGHAMTON - The Mothers and Babies Perinatal Network will be sending out Mother's Day cards decked out with a local student's design.

Binghamton High School 9th grader Madison MacBlane was selected as the winner of the Mothers and Babies Perinatal Network Mother's Day Card Design Competition.

BHS students submitted designs for cards that will be sent out to people who donate at least $25 to the organization between today and Mother's Day.

MacBlane, who has an interest in art, says she wanted to include symbols and designs that a mother would love.

"I wanted to incorporate flowers because they tend to represent Mother's Day. I've always loved the pastel colors and I put them in my card because I thought it would all go together well," MacBlane said.

MacBlane was awarded a $50 gift card for winning the contest and she says she doesn't know what she'd like to buy with it.

MacBlane also says the opportunity allowed her to learn more about the Mothers and Babies Perinatal Network.

Over 40 designs were submitted.
