Local bikers revved their engines through the aisles of Toys ‘R’ Us to benefit children in our area Monday night.
Members of the Binghamton Harley Owners Group (HOG) purchased over $13,000 in presents that will be donated to the Broome County Toys for Tots.
The HOG club was started in 1989 and has made it a priority to donate to the cause every year.
It raises money during the John “Wah” Oleski Christmas for Kids fundraising ride to Tioga Downs.
Club Director Don Rauschmeier said the event shows off the bikers’ soft side.
“I think a lot of us still want to think we’re big, tough, rough guys but we get a lot of comments during the ride saying ‘this is a great thing you’re doing’ and ‘thanks for helping out,'” he said.
Tioga Downs donated $2,500 to the group to help buy toys.
Rauschmeier said the event is a great way for club members to spend time with one another during a time where most of their bikes are put away for the season.
The motto of the group is “ride and have fun.”
