Basketball entertainer Ilze Luneau visits a Children’s Home in Hillcrest

Local News

Students at the Children’s Home in Hillcrest were treated to a show, unlike anything they’ve seen before this morning.

Basketball entertainer Ilze Luneau was showing off some of her tricks students.

A native of Latvia, Luneau came to America to play basketball at the College of Saint Rose.

For the last 18 years she has been traveling to schools across the Northeast displaying her ability to dribble 6 basketballs, juggle, spin and incorporate other props.

In between tricks, Luneau makes a point to share life lessons with students.

She says more than anything, she wants to emphasize the importance of setting goals, working hard and practicing kindness.

Luneau says “I love how excited the kids get. It’s just something so different then they’ve seen with all the basketball tricks. I love when they come up to me after the show and say I’m going to go home and do this and practice this. I think I kind of motivate them to work on the skills on something they enjoy doing and getting better.”

Luneau shared a story of her time on The Ellen Degeneres Show where she was going to perform a new advanced trick which she failed multiple times in front of Ellen before getting it right.

She also made appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, at the Basketball Hall of Fame and more.
