State Senator Fred Akshar is returning to his roots in law enforcement by taking a job as Officer Akshar.
Akshar has been hired to work an occasional shift with the Port Dickinson Police Department.
He will get paid hourly.
Akshar was Broome County Undersheriff when he successfully ran for Senate in 2015.
He spent a combined 15 years with the Broome and Chenango County Sheriff’s Departments.
A spokesman says Akshar has always maintained a deep fondness and respect for the work that law enforcement officers do.
And the position allows him to maintain his New York law enforcement certification.
The spokesman says the Senator received approval by the Legislative Ethics Commission to pursue the job.
