A Vestal Senior is being honored for her musical talents.
The Binghamton Youth Symphony Orchestra will be holding its last concert of the season this weekend and as the first concerto winner, Jessica Luo will be performing a solo on her flute.
Luo has been playing the flute since 5th grade and serves as the principal flutist for the Binghamton Youth Symphony and the Vestal High School Wind Ensemble.
She has a wide variety of other accolades including being selected to play flute in the NYSSMA All-State wind ensemble and the New York State Band Directors Association Honor Band.
Luo says she just loves playing alongside such talented musicians. “I think my favorite part of being in the ensemble is being able to work and communicate with people who are completely different than me. Some people are similar to me but no matter how diverse the group is we’re all there to do one thing and that’s create music.”
Aside from her music, Luo is also top 10 in her class and has qualified for National meets in synchronized swimming.
Luo will be attending University of Rochester majoring in Environmental Science and will audition for the school’s orchestra and wind symphony.
The concert is this Sunday at Binghamton High School at 3, tickets are sold at the door.
