Details to come…

A man has been murdered following a home invasion in Apalachin.

New York State Police continue to investigate the incident that occurred at 5 Dorothy Road in Apalachin.

Police were sent to the home just before 6 this morning.

Two men had entered the home where a male and female lived, the suspects shot and killed the male and fled on foot leaving the female uninjured.

State Police say they are interviewing 2 people in connection to the crime but that no one has been charged.

Pat Morrissey lives down the road from where the crime took place.

He said he can’t believe something like this could happen in such a peaceful neighborhood. “It’s just crazy for this neighborhood. There’s people walking all the time up and down the street, lots of dog walkers, lots of kids walking around. It’s just a really friendly quiet street. It’s a dead end on either end so the people that come up here are the people that live here.”

he house is a very short distance from Tioga Hills Elementary School, which caused the school to be closed for the day and sent other schools into lockdown.

Police say it was not a random act and that there is no danger to the public at large.

Anybody with information is asked to call New York State police at 607-687-3961.
