A Binghamton man tries to defraud the IRS while in prison

Local News

A Binghamton man is facing additional jail time for trying to defraud the IRS while he was in prison.

40 year-old Kareem Young is facing another 5 years in prison for claiming in his 2013 tax return that he had made over $6 million and that that amount had been withheld.

He then sought a refund of over $6 million.

Prosecutors say Young filed a bogus form claiming false withholding credits from the Broome County DA’s Office, a scheme that he learned of while in prison.
