Local elementary students helped create a happy marriage for this Valentine’s Day.
Kindergartners at Roosevelt Elementary in Binghamton held a wedding ceremony for the letters Q and U.
As part of teaching students the alphabet, the teachers used the marriage of the two letters to emphasize that the letter U always follows the letter Q.
Principal David Chilson served as the master of ceremonies.
The service included the reading of many words that utilize the two letters as they sent the pair into a lifetime of alphabetical bliss.
Chilson says he’s glad that he has teachers willing to go the extra mile for their students.
“Just looking at the smile on the kids faces. They really enjoyed today, they looked forward to it. They dress up in their nicest clothes some of them and it’s really cute. I’m just very thankful my teachers are willing to do fun things for kids in an educational environment. We got a great staff here and we really appreciate them.”
For the ceremony the girls served as the Q’s while the boys were the U’s.
Chilson says this was the second year they’ve held the wedding and that it was just a fortunate coincidence that it ended up on Valentine’s Day.
