Local businesses and organizations are teaming up to help fight back against cancer.
A news conference was held Tuesday at Security Mutual Life, to announce details for Sock Out Cancer.
The initiative is aiming to raise money for local cancer patients to help them with every day expenses such as rent, utilities and gas.
The fundraising effort includes a concert on March 10th at the Forum featuring William Close and the Earth Harp Collective.
American Cancer Society Senior Marketing Manager Robyn Callaway says organizers hope to fight all types of cancer.
“There are so many colors of cancer. We all know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. 1 in 8 women are diagnosed with it. Everyone is familiar with the pink ribbon. But, there’s also lavender and purple for pancreatic cancer. There are so many different colors,” said Callaway.
People can also purchase the colorful socks with proceeds benefiting Sock Out Cancer.
The goal this year is to raise $100,000, with $50,000 going to Lourdes patients and $50,000 for UHS patients.
