Katerina Retzlaff chosen to spend this Spring as a Senate Page

A Kirkwood teenager will soon be roaming the halls of the US Capitol as part of a very exclusive group.

16 year-old Chenango Valley High School Junior Katerina Retzlaff has been chosen to spend this Spring as a United State Senate Page.

Sponsored by Senator Chuck Schumer, Retzlaff is one of only 30 teenagers selected for the program.

The non-partisan, non-political position serves all 100 Senators by delivering messages, preparing the Senate Chamber and doing whatever else is needed to assist with operations.

Retzlaff says she’s looking forward to being in the presence of so many prominent people. “I’m excited to see all of the famous people.  People who make change in our government, people who run our government, that we put our faith in them to be running our country.  I’m excited to see them and meet them.”

Retzlaff leaves for DC on Sunday and will remain there through June 8th.

All of the pages live in a dorm, attend a special school to keep up with their studies in the early mornings, then serve in the Senate each day from 10 until 5.
