Jason Ellis’ run for BC Sheriff ends due to lack of signatures

News

Longtime Broome County Sheriff Dave Harder will not face a primary in his run for a sixth term.

Challenger Jason Ellis was disqualified for the Republican primary ballot Tuesday when the Broome County Board of Elections ruled that he did not submit the required 1,000 legitimate signatures on his petition.

While Ellis had collected 1,059, many of them were challenged and the Board threw out 87 of the signatures, leaving him short of the needed number.

Harder’s only opponent now is former Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan who plans to run on the Working Families Party line in November.
