Hyundai and Mitsubishi are recalling thousands of cars for problems that could increase the risk of crashes.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Hyundai is recalling more than 64,500 Elantras from the 2013 model year because the brake pedal stopper can deteriorate. That could cause the transmission to shift out of park without applying the brake pedal.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake pedal stopper pad with an improved part, free of charge. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai’s number for this recall is 146.
Meanwhile, Mitsubishi is recalling 2015 and 2016 models of the Outlander Sport and 2016 models of the Outlander and Lancer due to a problem that can delay acceleration in certain driving conditions. That recall affects more than 82,000 vehicles.
MMNA (Mitsubishi Motors North America) has notified owners, and dealers will reprogram the CVT control unit with modified software, free of charge. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA’s number for this recall is SR-16-006.
