Halsey Valley Road elevation project begins

A road in Tioga County is being made more resilient to flooding.

The Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery announced the start of work on the $2 million Halsey Valley Road Elevation Project.

The project is going to raise a quarter-mile stretch of the road between NY 17C and Allyn Road by two feet above the height of floodwaters caused by Tropical Storm Lee which flooded the area in September 2011.

During the three month long project there will be a detour along Allyn Road and 5th Avenue that will route traffic around the project site.
