Broome County Executive Jason Garnar was spreading some holiday cheer while supporting an important charity today.
For the second straight year, Garnar took a shift as a Salvation Army bell ringer.
He was positioned outside of Sam’s Club in Vestal, exchanging holiday greetings with shoppers and handing out candy canes.
Garnar says the Salvation Army provides necessary services to needy families and individuals.
Plus, it’s a great way to get into the Christmas spirit. “Everybody is really positive. Everybody is really happy. We’ve had a lot of people who have just come up and said, ‘Hello’ and donated. It’s just a great way to give back to the community and it’s something I really enjoy to do.”
The Salvation Army relies on its red kettle campaign to support its programming throughout the year.
Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo and State Senator Fred Akshar were also scheduled to take shifts with the bell.
