County Executive Jason Garnar capped off “Meals on Wheels Community Champions Week” by donating some of his time to the cause.
Throughout the National March for Meals Campaign, the Broome County Office for Aging has asked the community to support local Meals on Wheels programs by volunteering to deliver meals or by making a monetary contribution.
Today, Garnar joined the effort and was out delivering meals in Binghamton.
He says the volunteers provide an essential service by bringing an affordable hot meal to people in need, and checking in on how they’re doing in the process.
Garnar says “They can check in see how they’re doing, help connect them to other services they might need. Sometimes they are the only people they might see for several days a week. It’s important to get people the food they need but also to help them and be a friend in need to people.”
