Garnar announces shared services property tax savings committee

News

Broome County is getting a head start on one of the initiatives Governor Cuomo laid out in his proposed budget.

County Executive Jason Garnar announced the formation of a Shared Services Property Tax Savings Committee Friday.

The goal is to recommend cost efficiencies within the county as well as potential areas where the county and local municipalities can merge services and departments.

The committee is made up of both business and labor representatives as well as a bi-partisan group of former county elected officials.

“This is an incredibly diverse group of very talented, qualified people who know about government. They know about business, they know how to work together. And they are extremely well-respected throughout the community,” said Garnar.

The Governor wants each county to vote on a shared services plan by August and then put it on the ballot for voters to approve in November.
