Fracking officially banned in NYS

Albany (WIVT) – The State of New York has finally made it official: it has banned the practice of High-Volume Hydraulic Fracturing.

The State DEC made the announcement this afternoon.

Its findings conclude that there are no feasible alternatives to avoid or minimize environmental impacts of fracking.

The DEC released a final supplemental generic environmental impact statement, also known as an SGEIS last month.

That included thousands of public statements and the state’s public health review, which addressed environmental impacts and public safety.

The DEC says fracking would have potential negative impacts on eco-systems, air and water resources, wildlife and public health.
