The American Civic Association is hosting a First Friday festival that hopes to bridge any differences between people who trace their ancestry to the islands on either side of the Mona Passage.
Domirriquenos Night is planned as a joint celebration of the Puerto Rican and Dominican cultures.
The ACA will be decked out in traditional decorations and there will be bachata, salsa and merengue music and dancing.
Plus island cuisine including rice and peas, chicken, pork and fried plantains.
Event Coordinator Keopisey <cap-oh-sigh> Lisa Be <bay> says Amereican Civic has been dedicating its First Friday events to different cultures each month, and it’s not only members of that ethnicity that show up to celebrate.
“Not only will Hispanic people come, we’ll have Asians and Caucasians and whoever lives in this town. They’re going to come and join us. Last time we had more than 100 people show up. So, tomorrow I believe we’ll have more than that. It’s going to be a successful night,” said Lisa Be.
The event runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Admission is $10 and includes food.
Kids under 12 are $5 dollars.
