Binghamton University is holding an Early Music Edition of its Italian Night at the University Downtown Center across from the Arena for First Friday.
It will feature the US debut of the Italian musical group Aria di Follia.
The quartet, made up of a singer, baroque guitarist, percussionist and viola de gamba player, performs early Baroque and folk music from around the world.
Tomorrow’s performance will focus on Italian and Spanish music.
Soprano Teresia Bothe says you don’t need to understand the lyrics to feel the emotions. “It’s actually very lively music and very straight forward which is very different from romantic opera. It’s like folk-wise but obviously with style.”
The free performance begins at 7:30 tomorrow evening inside the UDC and is sponsored by BU’s Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies and its Departments of Music and Romance Languages.
The First Friday Art Walk takes place at 21 venues in Binghamton.
