First Friday: Bob Johnston Photography Show and Competition

News

Work from some of our area’s best photographers and photography enthusiasts is being recognized during tomorrow evening’s First Friday Art Walk.

The Cooperative Gallery 213 on State Street is hosting its 8th annual Bob Johnston Photography Show and Competition during the month of January.

Over 100 entries were judged by professional photographer J-W Johnston.

Mary Louise Shapinas has been taking photos as a hobby for the past 10 years and is a member of the Two Rivers Photography Club which is a co-sponsor of the competition.

Shapinas won Best In Show with an image called “Earth’s Energy.” “I almost erased this one on my camera because that’s sun flare and that’s a no-no sometimes.  But I looked at it and said, ‘Nope, I really love it and it’s going to stay.’  And it’s one of my favorite pictures.”

The remaining awards will be announced at 7 PM tomorrow during a reception that runs from 3 until 9.

New this year, there will be a People’s Choice Award that will be voted on by visitors to the gallery.
