The region’s first proprietor of glamping is looking to open a second location in response to the popularity of its overnight accommodations.
Firelight Camps in Ithaca offers glamping which is a combination of glamorous and camping.
It’s a cross between a traditional campground and a boutique hotel.
Firelight opens five years ago and has grown to have 19 large safari-style tents tucked into the woods bordering Buttermilk Falls State Park.
Each tent features hard wood floors, a king bed or two queens, a sitting desk, and a private balcony.
Co-owner Bobby Frisch says the tents rent quickly, with all of the weekends booked before the season even begins.
“They like the idea of camping, but they want to be comfortable. We see everyone from younger couples from the city, older couples who used to camp. We do get a lot of families, also groups. We did about 4 yoga retreats this year and a number of weddings as well. So, we really can’t keep up with the demand,” said Frisch.
So Firelight Camps is planning to open a second, much larger site in the Catskills, closer to the New York City market.
Plans are to have as many as 100 tents near Livingston Manor in Sullivan County.
Firelight also features a central lobby tent with a full bar and continental breakfast.
Plus campfires every evening and live music on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Its season is mid May through the end of October.
There are still some weekday nights in September and October available.
