Elmira vies for Guinness world record for largest human shamrock

News

Elmira unofficially broke the Guinness World Record for the largest human shamrock.

Originally, Dublin, Ireland held the record at 815 people.

In total, 1,200 people jammed into the outlined shamrock. Those who participated were very proud to be part of history.

“Excellent, it was amazing,” said Aaron Cratsley. “It’s nothing like I’ve ever dreamed of.”

With an a plethora of ponchos handed out to participants, some had to be turned away for an unforseen turnout. Executive Director of Elmira downtown development, jennifer Herrick says it’s tough to predict these things.

“It’s a testament to this community wanting to see Elmira be better,” Jennifer Herrick. “I think we are on the right path. It’s really hard to plan for a first time event.”

It all comes down to family, friendship, and love.

Married couple, Julie and Mark Spicer, are proud of the area they call home.

“It’s a lovely idea to break a world record,” said Mark Spicer.

His wife echoed that sentiment.

“It puts Elmira on the map again,” said Julie Spicer.

It will take few weeks for the official record to be released. As of now, the attempt is under review by Guinness World Records.
